Windows by default Windows keep your laptop in low power consumption mode to reduce power consumption and save battery. And in this low power mode, your laptop goes into sleeping mode after a certain time. It is good for laptops battery health. But many users find it frustrating because you need to log in again and again after the laptop goes into sleeping mode. You can close the sleeping mode in Lid Close Action but it can problematic when you will carry your laptop without shutting down. It will drain power rapidly. In Windows 10 computer users can change the options to choose what happens upon closing their laptop’s lid.
1. Using Power options
Step 1: Right-click on the battery icon on the right bottom corner of the laptop’s screen, i.e on the taskbar. Select power options.
step 2: From the left panel select the Choose what closing the lid does option.
Step 3: Now go to When I close the lid, and change the action on both on Battery and plugin position.
Step 4: Select what do you want to do in close lid, there are four options, Do nothing, sleep, hibernate, and shut down.
2. Using Advanced Power options
Step 1: First you have to launch Run. Press Windows key + R. Write powercfg.cpl and press Enter.
Or Write Control Panel in the search bar and click on the suggested result and then change view type as the Large icon View. Click on Power Options.
Step 2: Now, go to Change plan settings and then change advance power settings.
Step 3: In the advance power window expand the Power buttons and lid by clicking the arrow on the left side. Then expand Lid close action and change the settings in both On battery and Plugged in situation.
Step 3: Finally click on Apply and OK.
2. Using Command Prompt
Step 1: Press Windows Key + R and write cmd then hit Enter.
Step 2: If your laptop is running on battery, write the command below.
The Index_Number to be replaced by the following values:
- 0 -Do nothing
- 3-Shut down
powercfg -setdcvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT 4f971e89-eebd-4455-a8de-9e59040e7347 5ca83367-6e45-459f-a27b-476b1d01c936 Index_Number
if your computer is running on power, not on battery write the command below,
powercfg -setacvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT 4f971e89-eebd-4455-a8de-9e59040e7347 5ca83367-6e45-459f-a27b-476b1d01c936 Index_Number
Step 3: Finally write the command and it enter to save the following settings.
powercfg -SetActive SCHEME_CURRENT
Now, restart your computer to reflect the effect.
