Steps to turn on or off Windows Defender Firewall
Method 1: Using Windows Security
Step 1: Type Windows security in the search bar and click on the result to open the app.
Step 2: Head over the firewall and network protection.
Step 3: Click on Domain Network.
Step 5: A new windows will open asking Do you want to allow this app to make changes to this device. Click on Yes.
Step 4: Toggle the switch under Microsoft Defender firewall to off position.
Step 6: Do the same process for Private and public network.
To enable the features do follow the same steps but toggle the switch to on position.
Method 2: Using Control Panel
Step 1: Type control panel in the search bar and click on the result to open the control panel.
Step 2: Then click on System and Security.
Step 3:In the System and Security windows select Windows defender firewall.
Step 4: At the left bar go over Turn Windows Defender on or off.
You will see windows defender protection option for two types of network:
- Private network
- Public Network
Under Private network three options are available;
- Block all incoming connections, including those in the list of allowed apps
- Notify me when Windows Firewall blocks a new app.
- Turn off windows defender firewall (not recommended).
Select the last option to turn off Windows defender firewall service.
Similarly, turn on or off Windows Defender Firewall service for Public network.

Method 3: Via command prompt
Step 1: Type cmd in the search bar and click on the result to open Command prompt, or press Windows key + X and select command prompt.
Step 2: To stop the Windows Firewall service write the command and hit Enter.
netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state on
Step 3: To turn off the Windows defender firewall write the code below and hit Enter.
netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state off

Method 4: Using PowerShell
Step 1: Type PowerShell in the search bar and click on the result to open PowerShell.
Step 2: Type the command given below and hit Enter to turn off Windows Defender firewall service.
Set-NetFirewallProfile -Enabled True
Step 3: Type the command given below and hit Enter to turn on Windows Defender firewall service.
Set-NetFirewallProfile -Enabled False
