Method 1: System error 6118 has occurred: Turn of windows defender firewall
The default windows antivirus system is Windows defender.
Step 1: Type Windows firewall on the search bar and click the suggested result to open windows firewall.
Step 2: Click on Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
Step 3: Under both Private network setting and public network setting, turn off Windows Firewall (not recommended). Press on Ok.
Method 2: System error 6118 has occurred: Turn off third-party antivirus/firewall
Many users use third-party antivirus programs and this antivirus provides a lot of protection including real-time internet protection, malware protection, real-time system checking, etc. Some of these antiviruses provide overprotection and users face troubles due to this.
“System error 6118” can be one of the troubles for third-party antivirus programs. Mostly this problem resolves by turning off the activity of running antivirus. To do the task follow these methods.
Step 1: Go to control panel (Windows logo key + X, locate control panel).

Step 3: Under the name section find Function Discovery Resource Publication. Right-click on it and locate properties or double-click on it.
Step 4: Under the General tab see service status if the service is running or not. Click on the stop, this will open stop other services window. Again click ok to agree with this.
Step 5: By Stopping the Function Discovery Provider also automatically stops the Function Discovery Resource Publication service
step 6: Select Automatic (Delayed Start) from the drop-down.
Step 7: Now click on the Start button to start the service again. Press Apply and Ok. It will restart the function discovery provider service again.
Step 8: Exit from the service window or close it.
Now run the net view command to see if it works.
Method 4: System error 6118 has occurred: Change advance sharing settings
Step 1: Go to the control panel. Search control panel on the search bar and click on the control panel on the suggested list or hit Windows key + X and locate the control panel.
Step: click on Network and internet and then network sharing center.
Step 3: Now go to advance sharing settings from the left bar.
Step 4: Expand both Private and Guest or Public profile. Under the network discovery section, Turn on network discovery.
Step 5: Scroll down and expand All networks.
Step 6: Go to File sharing connections, check if Use 128-bit encryption to help protect file sharing connections (recommended) is turned on or not. Keep it on.
Step 7: Go to password protected sharing. Check if the Turn on password-protected sharing option is enabled. Keep it turned on.
If all the settings are proper simply close the window, otherwise do as directed, and hit on save changes. Now run the command net view, I hope your problem will be resolved.
